Sonji was launched in April 2021 by Sonja Locher, an ulm raised and Vienna based knitter who has a colorful professional background. As a commission based artist, Sonja uses traditional handcrafting methods to create timeless, one-of-a-kind and collectible pieces that encapsulate the unique spirit of each customer.


In an age in which clothing is considered disposable and knitting is considered antiquated, this experimental and sustainable knitwear brand is here to make a statement. Sonja’s designs, which are made by her alone, are seasonless, custom sized –– and ultimately for everybody. This progressive take on knitwear fuses references from past and present by marrying the extravagance of historical clothing with the sensuality of clubwear. Though every Sonji garment is distinct, each is an homage to the art of the unexpected. In merging the edge of subculture with the mass appeal of cozy classics, Sonji designs challenge the stereotypes attached to knitting and, in doing so, reimagine the value and spirit of knitwear at large.
